About
Fardokht Gorouhi
Independent curator based in Paris
My curatorial work begins with a conversation and develops through looking, questioning and making connections. Through Gorouhi, I bring works together to explore how they can change our understanding of one another and of the world we share.

I am interested in the understanding that develops through lived experience, and how it shapes an artist’s attention, decisions and ways of making. It may be present in the handling of a material, the construction of an image or a question the artist keeps returning to. Conversation offers a way to explore this understanding, including what is still taking shape.
Each project develops its own questions through encounters with works, artists and the context in which they might be presented. My interests guide these encounters, while research can lead me towards an unfamiliar subject or make me reconsider the terms with which I began.
Through Gorouhi, I am developing a practice that brings together exhibitions, writing, online presentations and collaboration with artists. These offer different settings in which to explore an idea and bring it into contact with others.
How I work
.
I spend time with the works and speak with the artist about their development. Alongside these conversations, I gather material, follow references and consider the wider questions a project raises.
Selection, writing and the arrangement of a space develop together. I pay attention to how works affect one another: where a connection becomes visible, where a difference matters, and where something needs more time or space.
An exhibition gives these decisions a public form. I want visitors to be able to follow the thinking that brought the works together and to find connections of their own. What they bring to the encounter can extend the questions beyond those with which the project began.
Gorouhi welcomes conversations with artists, galleries, cultural organisations and people interested in acquiring a work.
I develop curatorial proposals and offer support with portfolios, project texts and applications for artistic opportunities. Selected artworks are also presented for sale, with clear documentation and acquisition terms.
Each collaboration is shaped around the work to be done, with its scope, responsibilities and remuneration agreed in advance.
